The State of Alabama Butler County

Know all men by these presents that we the brothers and sisters of D. J. Hattaway of the County and State aforesaid in consideration of the natural love and affection which we have and bear to Mary Ann Joiner and for the [??ter] support and maintenance of her and her Heirs after our deceas and for divers other good causes and valuable considerations thereunto especily moving have given granted and sold and by these presents do give grant and sell unto the said Mary Ann Joiner and to her heirs the following described lands to wit the west 1/2 of NW 1/4 and SW 1/4 of SE 1/4 of NW 1/4 Section 22 township 9 Range 13 containing one hundred acres more or less to have and to hold the said lands hereby granted bargained and sold and every part and parcel thereof unto the said Mary Ann Joiner her Executors Administrators and assines as their own propper lands hensforth forever. And we bind ourselves and heirs and assines jointly and severly firmly by thes presents that we will forever warent and defend the titles to all and singular the lands afforesaid unto Mary Ann Joiner her heirs and assines all of which lies in the County of Butler and State aforesaid. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals on this the 3 day of Jan 1885.

The State of Georgia Washington County

I Alfred B. Hataway acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County hereby certify that I saw the parties whos names is sined to the foregoing conveyance and who is known to me acknowledged before this day that being informed of the contents of the conveyanse tha executed the same voluntarily on the day the same leaves date.

Newspaper Obituary of David J. Hattaway

From the Friday, Apr 17 1874 issue of the Sandersville Herald and Georgian: "Mr. David J. Hataway, a native of this county, died on the 7th instant, at the residence of his father, Baton Hataway, Sr. He was brother-in-law of our esteemed fellow-citizen N. B. Giles. He had lived in Alabama for the last 27 years, and came to this county on the first of April to visit his old home, relatives and friends, and died on Tuesday the 7th."
